Feds OKs Offshore Wind Research Facility off Virginia’s Coast

Federal officials approved the development of a research facility off Virginia's coast to study how wind turbines perform in the open sea. 

The approval of the offshore research center is an "important step in our mission to be the first state to install offshore wind turbines in federal waters," Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said in a recent statement.

Tesla Quietly Ditches 10-Kilowatt-Hour Powerwall Home Battery

Tesla has discontinued its 10-kilowatt-hour residential battery, a company representative recently confirmed.

"The Daily Powerwall supports daily use applications like solar self-consumption plus backup power applications, and can offer backup simply by modifying the way it is installed in a home," according to a company statement emailed to Greentech Media. "Due to the interest, we have decided to focus entirely on building and deploying the 7-kilowatt-hour Daily Powerwall at this time."

Hawaii Air Force Unit Will Get Microgrid Powered by Trash

The microgrid will be able to function independently from the main electrical grid, allowing the base to operate in the event of a cyberattack on the power grid. The trash-powered microgrid system is currently being tested at a facility in Illinois.
