Anaheim-based Fisker Automotive has stopped production of its first car, the $100,000 Karma, because the automaker has run low on batteries for the hybrid electric vehicle, the company said Thursday.

Fisker halted production as it awaits the outcome of the bankruptcy sale of the company's sole battery supplier, A123 Systems, in early December.

Fisker officials said they stopped making Karmas so the company can reserve its remaining supply of batteries for replacements, though Ormisher declined to reveal how many batteries or cars are in stock.
