Four aldermen of Hudson's solidly-Democratic Common Council split from their caucus at Monday night’s Organizational Meeting, protesting the treatment of last month’s proposed citywide ban on hydrofracking.

“I will no longer be a member of the Democratic caucus of this body,” Third Ward Alderman John Friedman declared, preceding his announcement that Third Ward Aldermen Nicholas Wagoner, and both First Ward Alderman David Marston and Nicholas Haddad had coalesced into their own independent caucus. Despite the disavowal, Friedman reaffirmed his allegiance to the principles of the Democratic Party. Wagoner was absent from Monday night’s proceedings.
