InsideClimate News is launching the nation's most intensive summer program for environmental journalism. The Institute for Environmental Journalism will be held in NYC from July 9 to July 27 with the mission to train the next generation of environment and climate reporters. (A two-week option is also available.)
We are seeking motivated and curious students who are preparing for college — students who want to explore journalism and immerse themselves in reporting on the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. InsideClimate News' summer students will produce stories using New York City as their classroom.
This 15-day journalism boot camp will be held at St. Joseph's College in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. It is a day program and students who cannot commute will be responsible for their own room and board. Award-winning journalists and instructors will teach the fundamentals of journalism, including multimedia storytelling, interviewing techniques, and how to develop story ideas and sources. Students will also learn about climate science, clean energy technology, environmental justice, environmental policy, and news literacy.
Emphasis will be placed on getting students out of the classroom and into the field. Students will leave the camp with a body of work and a certificate that can be used on resumes and college applications.
