To our readers,

Today we are launching a redesigned website, the third since our founding in 2007, and the best one yet. 

On the surface, you’ll notice right away that our new look involves some rebranding. Our circular logo, which served us so well, has been respectfully retired, but we’ve simultaneously added something momentous. You’ll find it between the words “Inside” and “Climate.” It’s a space. As these things go, that’s a tectonic shift. So now here we are: Inside Climate News.

It’s a sign of something deeper going on. You’ll find it in the site’s navigation, five green links in a row at the top of the page, a distillation of much effort. 

“Science” and “Politics & Policy” occupy the left side of the line, separated by a chasm, the one between understanding and accountability.  Similarly on the right, “Fossil Fuels” and “Clean Energy” are in tense relation, reflecting their existential competition in the world.

The fifth term in the center is “Justice.” Most immediately, it refers to environmental justice. It has always been at the center of the climate story, only now starting to receive the attention it is due. 

Justice occupies the central place for good reason. It is where the conflicts on either side can be resolved, and it takes many forms. Social justice. Racial justice. Economic justice. Equal justice. Poetic justice. 

This new website depicts what the climate story looks like to us in 2020. Thanks are due to Erica Goode, managing editor, for insisting on work of the highest ambition; to Katelyn Weisbrod, web producer and content shepherd; to Kevin Zweerink for guiding our rethink and his luminous design; to Kyle Evans who expertly built the front end you see and the back end you don’t; and to Kelly Doe, guardian angel.

Most importantly, we hope this new website will well serve you, our readers, until the next redesign demands another re-examination.
