Jamie Smith Hopkins

Jamie joined Inside Climate News in 2024 and works alongside Executive Editor Vernon Loeb overseeing stories flowing from the growing newsroom. An experienced investigations editor with a background in daily news, she helps reporters elevate everything from quick-turn pieces to complex projects that go through legal review. The projects she’s managed at ICN include a series tracking the impact of China’s increasingly global development on the environment and an exposé of a secretive international arbitration system that has forced countries to pay fossil-fuel companies they tried to regulate. Previously, she was a senior editor and investigative reporter at the nonprofit Center for Public Integrity and a reporter at The Baltimore Sun. Projects she’s managed or reported have been recognized by the Society of Environmental Journalists, the Best in Business Awards, the Investigative Reporters and Editors and the Peabody Awards.
